A bill supported by several large unions aimed at protecting warehouse workers passed the New York State legislature last week, a year after it was first introduced. The Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction act requires employers to train employees on injury reduction, implement injury reduction plans made in collaboration with professional ergonomic experts and allow for inspections of workplaces.
The legislation follows on the heels of the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, passed in 2022, which banned certain types of work quotas in warehouses. A similar coalition of labor unions, advocates and legislators that pushed for that bill reconvened to support the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act.
