The Chief is a New York City-based newspaper that has long focused on municipal government, civil servants, and the issues affecting New York State and federal employees.
Founded in 1897 as an independent newspaper for city firemen, its coverage expanded to include police, and subsequently to all public workers in New York, from correction officers to teachers, social workers and clerical employees. The Chief-Leader became a proud champion of civil service, sometimes called the "Civil Service Bible." We are considered a definitive source for information on union contract negotiations and settlements, public-employee pensions, labor-related legislation, as well as on occupational health and safety issues.
We also recently expanded to cover issues of broad concern to all working people in the private and public sectors as well as in the gig economy. Under new ownership, our staff remains committed to the tradition of The Chief's work on behalf of public-sector employees. We are equally committed to extending our range of coverage.
Labor needs its own paper. We are the right team to fill that need.
The Chief is published 52 weeks a year and its website carries new content daily. The newspaper arrives on newsstands throughout the New York City metro area Thursday mornings. Subscribe at www.TheChiefLeader.com/subscribe/
