Tech Guild VP: Mayor's Order is 'Risking Lives'

Contending "it's like Russian Roulette out there," a top official of the District Council 37 local representing Engineers, Architects and other city professionals Sept. 15 questioned Mayor de Blasio's judgment in ordering 80,000 employees who have been working remotely since the pandemic began to return to their offices, saying neither those workspaces nor the subways were safe.

Mitchell Feder, the first vice president of the Civil Service Technical Guild, said in a phone interview that he understood the Mayor's desire to get employees, particularly those based in lower Manhattan, back to their offices to revive economic activity in an area where some businesses have been forced to close, but "going back in is premature."
