City database would track worker deaths

City employers would be mandated to report workplace deaths, according to recently introduced City Council legislation. 

Council Member Carmen De La Rosa’s bill,  introduced Thursday, would require the Commissioner of Consumer and Worker Protection to establish a public database that tracks workplace fatalities across the city. It would also require the chief medical examiner to report deaths determined to be the result of a workplace injury and to report the deaths to the appropriate district attorney's office if there is any suspected criminality.
