NYS firefighter org fears OSHA rule would devastate volunteer departments

Regulations proposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration would strap volunteer fire departments with exorbitant costs and make it difficult for them to continue operating, an advocate organization for volunteer firefighters in the state is cautioning.

The federal rule, proposed earlier this year, would update national fire safety and emergency response standards  for the first time in 43 years. It would institute modernization regulations on equipment, training, healthcare screenings and emergency preparedness.
