Although Chipotle Mexican Grill workers in New York City recently scored a major victory when the fast-food giant reached a $20 million settlement for violating the city’s labor laws, additional measures are needed to prevent further infractions, workers and elected officials say.
That’s why City Council Members Carmen De La Rosa and Marjorie Velázquez introduced a pair of bills Aug. 11 aimed at strengthening the city’s Fair Workweek Law, which requires fast-food businesses to provide workers with advance notice of their schedules and additional compensation for schedule changes.
