Killings and shootings dropped considerably citywide in 2022, even as overall major crime climbed 22 percent compared with a year earlier.
The increases stemmed from spikes in grand larcenies and robberies, both of which soared 26 percent, and burglaries, which climbed 23 percent, according to NYPD data through Christmas day. Auto thefts were up by more than 30 percent.
