City bumps lifeguards’ pay

With hope of attracting wave of new candidates

Posted 7/15/22

The city and District Council 37 have negotiated temporary pay raises and established an easier swim test to address severe staffing shortages at city beaches and pools.

The starting pay for lifeguards will increase from $16 an hour to $19.46, which is the pay rate for lifeguards who have been on the job for three years. The raises will be in effect only for this summer. Lifeguards who remain on the job until September will also receive a $1,000 retention bonus.
