Very unfortunate that managers are treated unfairly due to no union protection. In shelter, we have been on the front line during the pandemic and did not receive the accolades or acknowledgements like our collogues who work in other settings nor did we receive hazard pay or a bonus similar to healthcare workers. Managers are hardworking individuals who are on the clock 24/7 and for managers who work in shelter such as myself, know the feeling of more work without more wages. Managers need a raise to keep up with the rising cost of living in NYC. Some managers make six figures but once Uncle Sam takes his share, you are forced to work a 2nd job or minimize your necessities, your wants are non-existent. Was it worth me trading in my union title for a non-union title? I felt more respected as a union staff. I had a voice other than my own. Just hoping managers are given a raise, it's disheartening when you see agencies hiring several commissioners, but front line staff are not hired as they should be, and managers will have to pick up the slack without monetary compensation. The morale is low, the wages are low. A raise is needed.
