The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Colorado baker who refused on religious grounds to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, but the decision should not compromise the rights of gay New Yorkers, according to the city Commission on Human Rights.
“Today’s SCOTUS decision in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case does not give people permission to discriminate against LGBTQ New Yorkers,” Carmelyn P. Malalis, Chair and Commissioner of the CHR, said in a statement after the decision was made public June 4.
