The Special Commissioner of Investigation for city public schools and the city Department of Investigation Dec. 18 announced that in 2017, representatives for Mayor de Blasio agreed to delay an interim report on the quality of education provided at Orthodox Jewish schools in order to secure an extension of mayoral control—with his knowledge.
After advocacy group Yaffed complained in 2015 that 39 yeshivas in the city did not meet the state’s minimum education standards, a Department of Education investigation into the issue stalled, with no report released until August 2018.
