With the city and the nation confronting a wave of bloody violence attributable to a proliferation of illegal firearms, President Biden during a Feb. 3 visit to 1 Police Plaza vowed to partner with local authorities nationwide to step up enforcement and prosecution of gun crimes while also boosting community-based efforts to stop the mayhem before it can start.
The President said the Justice Department would spearhead efforts to muzzle the Iron Pipeline of illegal guns into New York and other cities, launch dedicated firearms-trafficking task forces and strengthen prosecutions of repeat violent offenders and people who traffic in illicit firearms.
