A year into a strike at Brooklyn’s United Metro Energy oil terminal, Teamsters-backed workers at the company are calling on the city to cancel its multi-million-dollar contract with the John Catsimatidis-owned firm.
United Metro, whose headquarters and terminal and storage facilities abut Newtown Creek in Greenpoint, delivers gasoline, bio-diesel, heating oil and natural gas throughout the New York area, including to city agencies. The company received nearly $38 million from the city in the last year, and $153 million, primarily from the Department of Education, altogether since 2013, according to Teamsters Joint Council 16.
