Struggle continues

While we understand the seriousness of missing federal reporting requirements, we are distressed to learn that, without notice or warning, AFSCME has placed the DC37 Retiree Association under administratorship. 

We regret that AFSCME's national leadership took this extreme action before working to seek a resolution with the Retirees Association to address any concerns.

The timing of the decision suggests that it is an effort to prevent future contributions to the NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees. The DC37 Retiree Association has strongly opposed the decision by New York City and the Municipal Labor Committee to put retirees into an inferior, privatized, Medicare Advantage plan to save money for the city. 

On behalf of the Executive Committee of a sister municipal local retiree chapter, the Retirees Chapter of PSC-CUNY, we want to thank the DC 37 Retirees Association for the support they have given over the years to New York City municipal retirees in our struggle to prevent New York City from forcing its over 250,000 retirees into a Medicare Advantage health insurance program.

We look forward to working with them in the future as we continue to fight together for health care justice and equity for all New York City municipal employees, active and retired.
