Last week, in the letters section of The Chief, a writer proposed a "proportionate response" to Hamas' brutal and horrific attack on Israel. The suggestion was to bomb ten oil refineries in Iran. I've got two points to make in response to this letter. First, there isn't a proportionate response to this or any other horrific event of this kind; don't try in your blind rage to find one. Second, and in solidarity with Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and atheist humanitarians around the world who are protesting, I support the only humane response at this point: a ceasefire.

Here! Here! "Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding. You cannot subjugate a nation forcibly unless you wipe out every man, woman, and child. Unless you wish to use such drastic measures, you must find a way of settling your disputes without resort to arms." - Albert Einstein September 18, 1930

Bravo, Ben August! A ceasefire is the only appropriate response. To cheer on aggressive and deadly attacks which kill innocent Palestinians is cheering on war crimes.
