Council OKs pay equity package

The City Council has passed a series of bills aimed at addressing the pay disparity faced by women and people of color in the city workforce.

A report released by the Council earlier this year found that so-called occupational segregation contributed to 95 percent of the gender and racial wage gap in the municipal workforce, because women and persons of color are disproportionately employed in the lowest-paid titles. People of color earned, on average, 82 cents for every dollar earned by white male workers, according to the April report.
