To the editor:
"Medical groups and patients sue Trump administration over Medicaid requirements" (Sept. 25 Chief) shows just another reason we need the complete healthcare coverage that all other western democracies have. For instance, Britain has had numerous right-wing prime ministers. None of them have cut their citizens' health care.
But the U.S. has a president with a heart colder than ice and a federal lawsuit has to be filed to stop him from instituting work requirements for the poorest of the poor to receive healthcare.
Work or die.
Of course, there are plenty of people who work and don't receive good, or in some cases any, health coverage. I'm lucky. As a retired transit worker under the Medicare Advantage plan I was forced into, I have so far not had to pay for the substantial amount of health care I require.
I got a statement from Aetna saying that the medical claims submitted by my providers this year amount to $14,372.66. The plan's share is $2,148.29.
My share is $0.00.
Those who have similar health needs without the same coverage and can't come up with over $14,000 are likely to leave this world prematurely. That's why we need Medicare for all instead of the patchwork for-profit system we now have.
