MDC Inmate Death Brings Greater Scrutiny to Federal Prison System

The death of a "disruptive" inmate at the Federal Metropolitan Detention Center June 3 has drawn heightened scrutiny to the Brooklyn facility that was problem-prone in the past.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons was already dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed 68 inmates and at least two staff members across the country.
