Our public schools no longer face the mortal threat of a hostile mayor as they did when Bloomberg was in charge, so the issue of mayoral control is not at this moment as explosive. It remains on the front burner, nonetheless.
The fact that mayoral control has not been as malignant in practice as feared is attributable more to luck than conception.
