During last month's contract vote-fixing trial of former District Council 37 leaders Al Diop and Marty Lubin, one of the primary witnesses against them, Mark Shaplo, seemed compelled to let the world know that while he may have been the biggest thief in the union, he wasn't the first.Assistant District Attorney Thomas Mooney asked Mr. Shaplo to explain what crimes he had committed, a move that is meant to inoculate the jury so that it won't be too mortified when defense lawyers start asking about a witness's less admirable moments.
