Since the onset of the pandemic, employment in the health care and transportation sectors has grown statewide — but there are fewer people working in retail and government, according to a recent report from the state comptroller’s office.
Between 2019 and 2023, the number of New Yorkers employed in the health care and social assistance sector increased by 95,113 workers, making it the industry that saw the largest growth during the aftermath of the pandemic. Nearly one in five New Yorkers work in the health care sector, making it the top industry across the state.
