Even in a prepared statement issued by his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani's reaction to FBI agents executing search warrants at his Upper East Side apartment and his office early April 28 had a sputtering quality as he branded them indicative of a "corrupt double standard," claiming the Justice Department had ignored "blatant crimes" by Democrats including Hillary Clinton and President Biden.

But the hour of the raids—a time when law-enforcement officials expect their targets to be unprepared to destroy or delete incriminating evidence that might be found in cellphones and computerswas comedy gold for late-night talk-show hosts.
