Educators suspended for phony vax cards entitled to appeals, arbitrator rules

An arbitrator determined that the city’s Department of Education did not have the right to place educators accused of submitting fake Covid-19 vaccination cards on unpaid leave without first allowing them to appeal, a finding the city then unsuccessfully appealed in state court.

The United Federation of Teachers sought arbitration after 82 staffers were put on unpaid leave April 25 for allegedly failing to comply with the vaccine mandate established last fall for city schools employees.
