A city Department of Correction captain has been convicted by a State Supreme Court jury of criminally negligent homicide in connection with the hanging death of an inmate at the Manhattan Detention Complex in November 2020.
Prosecutors said Captain Rebecca Hillman failed to act to prevent the death of Ryan Wilson, who was being held on a parole violation following an arrest on robbery charges the previous October. She faces the prospect of four years in prison when she is sentenced April 3. DOC Commissioner Louis Molina said the department would look to fire Hillman "immediately.'
