To address a large number of vacancies and retention issues within the municipal workforce, members of the City Council recently are weighing proposed legislation that would require city agencies to administer exit interviews to departing employees.
The bill would require the Department of Citywide Administrative Services to come up with a survey asking retiring and resigning employees about whether their departures were related to their salaries, the lack of remote work, lack of opportunities for promotion or discrimination, according to Council Member Shaun Abreu, who introduced the legislation. Each city agency would have to interview departing employees within two weeks of their final day on the job.
