The serious deterioration of conditions throughout the city subway system during the COVID-19 crisis is prompting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to shut down overnight service starting on May 6 from 1-5 a.m. until further notice.
According to the MTA, this is the first time the system has ordered a break in service for health reasons since its inception in 1904.
