Paula Evans, who has spent 30 years working at NYC Health + Hospitals’ Metropolitan Hospital and recently won the Sloan Public Service Award, knew she wanted to become a nurse by the time she was 7.
It was at that age when she visited her godfather in a hospital in her native Guyana that she witnessed the deplorable conditions of the facility.
