School Bus Workers OK Strike Against Reliant

School bus employees who work for the Reliant bus company overwhelmingly voted Jan. 22 to authorize a strike in response to more than a year of, with talks breaking down even further after Governor Cuomo vetoed a bill last month that would have restored protections for their wages, pensions and vacation time.

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1181, the largest union representing city school bus drivers and attendants, said that the strike vote was taken because Reliant Transportation wants to scale back medical coverage for its 2,000 members who work for the company.
