The Police Benevolent Association is suing the city and the independent city agency charged with overseeing the NYPD, alleging that a ballot measure approved by residents in November that expanded the agency’s budget violated state law by extending “the power of the purse” to voters.
The PBA’s petition, filed in State Supreme Court Jan. 28, contends that provision encroached on the budget-setting authority of the Council and the Mayor and was therefore “impermissible.”
