Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro is retiring effective Feb. 16 after more than 40 years of Fire Department service spanning five decades, a Jan. 21 announcement that produced tributes to him from fire-union leaders.
Mayor Adams commended his work in rebuilding the department, which suffered a catastrophic less on 9/11 when 343 department members, including several men in its upper ranks and dozens of officers, died during the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center.
