New York Trails Jersey, 18 Other States In Virus Workers' Comp Protections

While front-line Federal civil servants across the country sidelined by the coronavirus enjoy a Workers' Compensation presumption for their  claims, a year into the pandemic, essential workers here in New York and dozens of other states lack that benefit.

"If the Federal Government can make a presumption of occupational exposure with COVID, there is no reason New York State can't do the same," said Charlene Obernauer, executive director of the New York Committee for Occupational Safety Health, a non-profit supported by unions and community-based organizations.
