Structural fires and emergency medical calls were both down during the fiscal year that ended June 30, but a doubling in manhole fires, helped push Fire Department runs over 1 million, compared to the 985,491 logged the previous fiscal year, according to the Mayor's Management Report released Sept. 17.
It said the decline in medical emergencies "may be best explained by an overall decrease in daytime population in New York City as well as a possible public reticence to visit hospitals during the pandemic."
