Two former aides to Governor Cuomo, including one he once referred to as “my father’s third son,” were among nine government officials and business executives charged by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in two schemes involving bribery, corruption and fraud in the awarding of hundreds of millions of dollars in state economic-development contracts.
“It turns out that the State Legislature does not have any kind of monopoly on crass corruption in New York,” Mr. Bharara said at a press conference Sept. 22. He has convicted former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and ex-State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos of corruption, and his office has successfully prosecuted at least seven other lawmakers on ethics charges.
