With city schools facing the prospect of debilitating cuts, Councilman Brad Lander and others are advocating a hiring freeze at the NYPD, with the savings passed on to the Department of Education.
The Brooklyn Councilman proposed the freeze during an April 27 teleconference with parents and Teachers who discussed how the city might trim the DOE's $25-billion budget yet allow it to retain and hire front-line educators.
