City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams called on lawmakers to grant the state’s 850,000 gig workers with protections including paid sick leave and the right to unionize to prevent them from being exploited.
In a report released on International Workers’ Day, Williams highlighted the challenges faced by independent contractors, who are often poorly paid and susceptible to wage theft.
