Who benefits from deportation?

Posted

 To the editor:

I recently received a letter from something called the Benefit Protection Alliance claiming benefits paid to illegal immigrants were reducing money going into the Social Security Trust Fund. In reality, undocumented immigrants pay between $25 billion and $26 billion in Social Security payroll taxes a year. But because they lack legal status, they cannot collect Social Security benefits.

So who actually benefits from deporting them? Certainly not the businesses who no longer have them as employees or the government budget that no longer receives their tax payments.

But the Benefit Protection Alliance receives plenty of money from those who are gullible, ignorant or bigoted enough to respond to their appeals.

Politicians from President Donald Trump on down benefit from the support they receive from those blindly against "illegal" immigration.

In addition, we are not benefitting from the billions spent on the ICE goon squad that is jailing mostly decent people who are being kept in horrible conditions.

To address the root cause of illegal immigration and deportation, it’s crucial to understand that political parties are primarily driven by electoral success. If a particular demographic group strongly aligns with the opposition party, any policy that strengthens their political influence can be seen as a strategic disadvantage. In essence, if districts with a high percentage of undocumented immigrants were not supporters of the Democratic Party, they would be deported immediately with the full support and consent of the Democratic Party and its affiliates. Consequently, the humanitarian arguments for favoring illegal entry into the United States by an indeterminate number of undocumented individuals would be neither a reality nor an issue.

For a change, Word Man's arguments are valid. But the humanitarian arguments supporting migrants are still morally and logically valid.

Mr. Warren, the humanitarian issue is being used as a smokescreen to hide the real reason behind bringing in undocumented immigrants—to secure Democratic votes. As I mentioned in my previous post, if undocumented immigrants were to vote Republican, the Democrats would immediately deport them.

The true "smokescreen" is the false claim of widespread voter fraud by undocumented immigrants. The Heritage Foundation searched voting records for every election, in every state, at every level dating back to 1982 desperately looking for this kind of fraud. They found a total of 100 votes cast by non-citizens. Let that sink in.

Word Man has it exactly backwards. The real reason Republicans oppose immigration reform is they fear those who would become citizens won't vote for them.

It is widely recognized that the Democratic Party’s support for undocumented immigrants is likely intended to secure their electoral support in upcoming elections. However, it is crucial to emphasize that undocumented immigrants are ineligible to participate in federal elections, a matter that warrants further discussion in a separate context.

Who says the Democratic party supports "illegal" immigration. President Obama deported more immigrants than Trump. That's why Trump is desperately trying to catch up. He can't stand the thought that Obama beat him yet again at something.
