City restores funding for job training, schools programs

Unions want others revived

The restoration of a job training program and of funding for community schools by the Adams administration this week drew praise from two unions who had sued the city over the cuts. The unions, though, also called for restoration of other parks and education programs axed in November during a round of department-wide budget reductions. 

The city eliminated funding for the job training program — which serves low-income New Yorkers who work in the city Parks Department and the Department of Sanitation — as part of the administration’s attempt to close a budget gap it mostly attributed to spending on the asylum-seeker crisis.
