Tuning out

Posted

To the editor:

I and my whole family are sick of the incessant “awfulizing," as the great Albert Ellis would call it, over the bad Biden debate performance and the fear of the diabolical Donald Trump as president.

As a result we have stopped watching and listening to MSNBC and CNN on a regular basis. The talking heads and legal experts are not going to bore us to death or drive us to nervous breakdowns over the next four months. We have new strategies and outlooks:

From Alfred E. Neuman, we get his philosophy, “What, me worry?”

From Hank Williams, we get the lyrics to “I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive.”

“I'm not gonna worry wrinkles in my brow/'Cause nothing's ever gonna be alright, no how/No matter how I struggle and strive/I'll never get out of this world alive."

I don’t think Donald Trump will be elected president. The American voters are just not that stupid. But whatever happens, if it’s not in my power to control, I’m not going to worry or fret for one more second until and after the presidential election.
