The building climbers

To the editor:

"When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace." That wisdom sounds like something we would have gotten from John and Yoko back in the day.

But it's something that the Manhattan District Attorney apparently does not appreciate. Ivan Kuznetsover and Angelina Nikoulou climbed to the top of the Empire State Building on July 1 where they attached a banner proclaiming that as he proposed to her.

Since they had to break into a restricted area to get to the top, they've been charged with burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and criminal tampering. If they are convicted of these charges, they will not only have criminal records, but some of these offenses are felonies.

Imagine this being the reason they can't find future employment or housing.

Now Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is allegedly a progressive prosecutor. Perhaps he could show this by holding back on prosecuting good people for technical violations of the law and show more aggression in prosecuting those who are dangerous and truly criminal.

This essay presents a straightforward approach to law enforcement. It narrates the story of Ivan and Angelina, facing felony charges for trespassing and vandalism after a rooftop proposal. The essayist recommends prioritizing dangerous criminals over technical violations, a practical approach to responsible law enforcement.
