Taxi, ride-hail drivers accelerate demands for Council support

Dozens of yellow cab, Lyft and Uber drivers queued up during a City Council committee hearing last week to implore city lawmakers for help in easing what for some are significant financial burdens. 

They lined up to speak in support of two bills in particular, one of which would require that electronic hailing providers pay drivers at least what the driver would have received if the trip had been clocked by meter. Currently, so-called e-hail companies negotiate fixed fares for trips all over the city, including to and from the airports.
