Retirees' organization has come a long way

Posted

To the editor:

The New York City Organization of Public Service Retirees has come a long way since its inception.  Membership has steadily increased and court victories have been inspiring.

Especially as this “David” has held at bay the Municipal Labor Committee and New York City Law Department “Goliaths," despite the former’s tapping of union dues and the latter’s unlimited taxpayer dollars to cover legal expenses.

The NYCOPSR relies solely on donations, and too many retirees have not contributed while reaping the benefits of not being forced into an inferior Medicare Advantage plan.

Perhaps many retirees are complacent and think that NYCOPSR has won because of a lull in related headlines. But there are two court cases that have not been finally adjudged. The fight for city and state legislation permanently codifying health benefit protections is ongoing.

This requires funds not just for legal expenses but lobbyists as well. And with the mayor stubbornly refusing to meet with NYCOPSR, there is much work to be done. A false sense of security has consequences. Fellow retirees, please help support this just cause.

  • Marianne Pizzitola is the most talented activist I have ever met. Everyone else at NYCOPSR has been tremendous. If all 250,000 City Retirees contributed $50 bucks a month auto we would be unstoppable. The money is well and honestly spent.

Mamdani, a typical socialist ideologue, is all talk and no action, except when it aligns with his socialist, economic, and social agenda.

Those who voted for Mamdani must now face the consequences of their actions, ideally without complaint.

What realistic expectations do Mamdani supporters have for the socialist-democrat Mamdani? Fiscal responsibility, fair and equitable health insurance choices, ethical and responsible leadership with an understanding heart; dream on, folks!
