To the editor:
The billionaires who fund political campaigns and own the mainstream media have often told us to vote for a Democrat or a Republican because they're the only ones with a chance to win. But that's when the third-party candidate is someone who believes in such "radical" ideas such as those who work for a living should make a living wage, that housing and food should be affordable and that everyone should have full health care coverage.
Now that the Democrats have a candidate who believes that and the Republicans have a candidate that the billionaires think has no chance to win, they want people to believe that the "independent" candidate, Andrew Cuomo, is the only "competent" candidate with a chance to win.
When as governor, Cuomo had a choice between raising taxes on the rich or using the threat of layoffs to get poorly-paid state workers to accept a three-year wage freeze, he chose the latter. That's why the billionaires, including President Donald Trump, find Cuomo to be the only acceptable candidate.
How about this as a way for New York City voters to rebel: If you don't have a major problem with Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, vote for him. If you have too much of a problem with him, vote for the Republican nominee, Curtis Sliwa. Let Cuomo finish third behind those two if you want to rebel against the billionaires.
