To the editor:
The Oct. 18 Chief article, "DC 37 preschool teachers in provisional deal," notes that this agreement gives four 3-percent raises and a final 3.25-percent hike. That sounds good if you skip over the preceding sentence.
It notes that this will raise the minimum salary to $18 an hour. That is still a poverty wage. It should be obvious that teachers taking care of children deserve more than that.
Sticking to a pattern of percentage increases for workers who are so underpaid to begin with will leave them in poverty. They need a much higher pay hike.
