Protect Taiwan

Posted

Xi Jinping threatened war with the United States if he is stopped from taking over Taiwan.  Xi said that relations between the two countries could enter an “extremely dangerous place" if Donald Trump ignored Chinese demands over Taiwan.

Trump doesn’t have the guts or intelligence to tell Xi what he needs to hear; that is, that if China moves on Taiwan, the United States will use all necessary weapons to remove Xi’s Taiwan ambitions from his head now and for the rest of his life. Even nukes can’t be absolutely off the table.

Our defense of Taiwan must be immediate and make Xi realize that we will pay whatever price is necessary to protect Taiwan.

Through the Taiwan Relations Act, the US has treated Taiwan as an important non-NATO ally to facilitate military and economic cooperation.  What happens in Taiwan will have great implications for the future of U.S. alliances in the region including threats to Japan and the Philippines.

Caving in to Xi’s ambitions on Taiwan would lead these nations to doubt whether the U.S. would come to their defense, giving them a Hobson’s Choice of accommodating China or building up their own militaries, including developing nuclear weapons.

The economic and scientific importance of Taiwan can't be overstated.  Taiwanese companies manufacture 70 percent of the world’s semiconductors and about 90 percent of the most advanced chips.

No other company could replace Taiwanese companies.  A Chinese attack on Taiwan would trigger a world wide economic depression and cut trillions of dollars off global economic output.

Every product that depends on technology from computers to cars would have to reduce or stop production.  A demented President Donald Trump is incapable of understanding the necessity of defending Taiwan.

He would rather focus on his utterly unnecessary war he started with Iran, his ugly $1.4 billion dollar gold ballroom (with security costs), his $13.1 million dollar reflecting pool, his 250 foot tall “triumphal arch” to himself, and his unlimited schemes to enrich himself and his family.  Only some Republican help in Congress can stop Trump from destroying our democracy and the respect for our nation throughout the world.

Gorman’s essay is informative regarding Taiwan and tells of the value of a free Taiwan, but Gorman knows, deep down inside his very being, that Xi will never, ever, attack Taiwan under the leadership of President Trump. Xi will patiently wait for a future Democrat administration, if and when, he moves his military against Taiwan. Xi understands that Trump will send him and China on a boat ride across the River Acheron, if he attacks Taiwan.
