The workers tasked with caring for some of New York's most vulnerable patients — nurses, emergency department staff and psychiatric providers — were left without adequate policies, training or resources to safely manage mental health crises, an investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James found.

Her office's investigation culminated in a settlement with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital announced this week that will require the hospital system to overhaul how it handles behavioral health emergencies.
