The heads of the NYPD’s police unions welcomed the appointment of Jessica Tisch as police commissioner, with several noting her familiarity with the department and her willingness to sit down with labor.
Tisch, the Department of Sanitation’s commissioner since April 2022, becomes the fourth person to head the police department since Mayor Eric Adams took office in 2021. She succeeds Thomas Donlon, who served in an acting capacity starting in mid-September following Edward Caban’s resignation.
