With their contracts at a dozen private-sector hospitals across the city expiring at the end of the year, about 20,000 members of the New York State Nurses Association are demanding new agreements that would bring them higher wages but also prioritize patients over executive pay.
The union is positioning its campaign, dubbed “Nurses Care for New York,” as a defense of patients and healthcare access against hospitals it says have cut staff and services in favor of executive salaries, new technology and lawsuits.
