Oct. Surprise: Cuomo ‘Monopolizes’ Teachers In the Public Schools

Governor Cuomo faced a backlash last week from Teachers’ unions and political rivals after he referred to public-school educators as “one of the only remaining public monopolies.”

The Governor’s comment, made to the editorial board of the Daily News, came as he pledged that if re-elected for a second term Nov. 4, he would look to charter schools and a more rigorous Teacher evaluation system to foster competition and would establish “real performance measures” for Teachers.
