Solo patrols in city subways are again become the norm for NYPD officers, much to the dismay of police unions and some cops.
Officers have for years patrolled in pairs or greater numbers, but in announcing the shift last week, Mayor Eric Adams said police resources were not being used correctly. The effective return to single-officer patrols will increase police visibility and contribute to what Adams has described as “omnipresence.”
