Following the Police Benevolent Association’s successful negotiations with the city on improved contract terms, which the union’s roughly 23,000 members are expected to ratify this month, the NYPD’s four other uniform unions will take their place at the bargaining table to ink new agreements in the coming months.
And while it is expected that unions representing detectives, sergeants, lieutenants and captains will carve out their own deals in relatively quick succession, the question hanging over any discussions will be whether increased financial terms can help stanch the exodus of city cops that’s been underway in the last few years.
